Welcome!
I’m Amoris, sometimes referred to as Frater Amoris in online circles. I’m an occultist, ritual magician, witch, devotee of Hekate, and I’ve been a Reiki practitioner and musician amongst many other things. This is my personal blog site, which will contain all of my musings, thoughts, journal entries, and magickal experiments.
The views expressed within these pages are my own. There has been no attempt to make them appeal to any particular audience. Think of this as my online journal where you will be able to read some of my private thoughts and experiences.
Abridged Occult History
I grew up in the American midwest from the late 1970s-1980s and had many paranormal experiences while living in a rural community. As a child, I experienced accidental astral projection and frequent encounters with spirits. As a teenager, I was involved with music and art and experimented with lucid dreaming.
All through childhood, esoteric books would find their way into my house, but no one ever knew where they came from. I enjoyed reading about Edgar Cayce and psychic development. Around the age of 12 or 13, I found Kathryn Paulsen’s Complete Book of Magic & Witchcraft, first edition, while digging through some boxes in storage. Later, I acquired Richard Cavendish’s Encyclopedia of the Unexplained from a friend of the family. These two books were the catalyst I needed for formally beginning my journey into esoteric studies. I experimented with that little book of witchcraft (and was surprised when it worked!), and used the encyclopedia to learn about the Golden Dawn, Aleister Crowley, Astrology, Numerology, Palmistry, and a host of other topics.
Shortly after I began university, I had a series of paranormal encounters following the death of a friend. I was temporarily possessed during a musical performance at his funeral, assaulted by an astral parasite at the cemetery while visiting his gravesite, and frequently saw and spoke to my friend after his death. These perceptions, which were not new to me, having had similar sensations throughout childhood, set the tone for my life direction. I knew that there was something to all this, and that the occult contained methods for harnessing these abilities and exploring the nature of reality. I decided then to devote my life to the study of the unknown.
This formal decision kicked off another series of events that were almost too well-coordinated to be believable. I met talented friends who would become my first mentors and experienced the most outlandish (and sometimes hellish) circumstances for several years, constantly teetering on the edge of what felt like spiritual psychosis. Eventually, I regained my equalibrium, and set out for Australia.
Whilst living in Australia, I continued to seek out the unknown and experienced even more paranormal encounters. I eventually joined the O.P.A. (Ordo Phoenicus Aurei – The Order of the Golden Phoenix), a Thelemic Golden Dawn lodge that operated in Sydney for nearly 30 years. Nevill Drury and Greg Tillett had a chapter devoted to this Order in their book Other Temples, Other Gods. It could be said that most of Sydney’s ceremonial magicians and local witches from 1973 to 2003 had been members of this Order at one time or another. I arrived near the end, but still appreciated my time with founder and Imperator Barry Salkilld (Frater C.D.). According to Barry, their temple space was said by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki to be the best in the Southern Hemisphere!
Around 2004, I received Reiki Attunements (Usui Reiki Ryoho) up to Level 2 and engaged in healing work. Most of my life from 2004 – 2013 was filled with work and additional higher education, but I maintained an interest and solitary practice in esoteric subjects.
Throughout the late 1990s through 2015 or so I moderated multiple pagan and occult forums, including the Real Magick e-group on Yahoo. I also participated at the Enochian-l e-list on Hollyfeld servers, along with other future authors such as Aaron Leitch and Jake Stratton-Kent. (I eventually had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Jake. He is sorely missed.) When the Hollyfeld list appeared to be at risk of going offline, I created the Enochian e-group at Yahoo as a backup. Interestingly, I and both of my forums were mentioned in the book Arguing with Angels, by Egil Asprem (he refers to me as Frater Amoris). It’s nice to think that someone was paying attention to our little online world back then!
Current Activities
I’m still involved in online moderation, and currently look after multiple communities on Reddit. One of my hobbies lately is taking online occult courses. It allows me to perform a community service by vetting and reviewing courses for others, and it also helps me stay current by taking me out of my comfort zones and introducing me to new ideas. So far, it’s been a lot of fun! There are so many brilliant minds out there right now researching topics that most of us will never have access to. It’s a great time to study magick and history!
Thank-you again for visiting, and please be patient as articles slowly trickle in. This is a work that will likely take years, not days!
